The March & Motorcade will mark the 35th anniversary (January 22) of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that struck down the abortion laws of all 50 states and allowed abortion for any reason at any time during pregnancy. Everyone who is able to walk is strongly encouraged to do so, but those who would have difficulty walking the distance are encouraged to ride in the motorcade, which will follow the marchers. The March & Motorcade will get underway from Perry Square in downtown Erie at 11 AM. Marchers who arrive early will be welcome to gather in the lobby of Gannon's Hammermill Auditorium (entrance on Peach Street) to stay warm. Hot drinks will be available, courtesy of the Gannon University Students for Life. Parade marshals will begin staging the vehicles for the motorcade at 10:30 AM. The vehicles will line up along the south side of North Park Row. (North Park Row is a one-way street with all traffic heading east.) Marchers should assemble at the Gazebo in Perry Square by 11 AM. At 11:00 AM, the March & Motorcade will proceed south on State St. to 18th St., west to Peach St., north to 14th St., east to State St. (thus circling the American Women's Services abortion facility at 1611 Peach St.), then north on State St. and back to Perry Square, where there will be a brief Memorial Service at the Gazebo. The Memorial Service will be conducted by Rev. William Barron of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church and Rev. Jerry Knight, Pastor of South Erie Bible Church. It will remember the 50 million lives lost to abortion in the United States since 1973, as well as the countless women who have suffered abortion-related physical and emotional trauma and all the others, including fathers and entire families, who have been touched by the tragedy of abortion. The Memorial Service is expected to conclude by 12:30 PM.
