PRESS RELEASE

March 4, 2000

People for Life will conduct a demonstration opposing the opening of an abortion facility in Erie on Saturday, March 4, 2000 from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. The demonstration will take place at the Professional Building, 1611 Peach St., Erie. It will be People for Life's 39th sidewalk demonstration since the picketing began on October 29, 1999.

Although abortionist Dr. Steven Chase Brigham was jailed in January and is expected to remain in jail until approximately April 4, an ad for his Erie abortion service now appears in the Meadville phone book, which was just released in the last two or three weeks. The ad mentions "abortions to 24 weeks" and gives an address of "Suite 310 1611 Peach St Erie."

People for Life sees no reason to suppose that the Dr. Brigham is any less a threat to the Erie area today than he was three or four months ago. Consequently, demonstrations, as well as other forms of protest and opposition, will continue indefinitely. Next Saturday, March 11, church groups will be in Erie to demonstrate from as far away as Pittsburgh, PA and Rochester, NY.

"In the event that an abortion facility does open in Erie, regular public demonstrations will become a way of life," according to PFL President Tim Broderick. "The current regimen of demonstrations will have been just the beginning, merely a prelude."
