So... Let's Talk About Public Opinion

People for Life will conduct another demonstration opposing the opening of an abortion facility in Erie on Saturday, April 29, 2000, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. The demonstration will take place at the Professional Building, 1611 Peach St., Erie, where Dr. Steven Chase Brigham is setting up an abortion business.

A tally of the signatures received from area residents who are opposed to Dr. Brigham and his plans is now displayed on the People for Life website, www.peopleforlife.org. The signature count now stands at 20,076.

Quite admittedly, twenty thousand people do not constitute a majority of the residents of northwestern Pennsylvania. However, no one ought to conclude that the twenty thousand people who have already submitted their signatures are the only ones who oppose Dr. Brigham's plans.

A recent poll, conducted by the Times-News on its GoErie.com website, indicates that about 5% of the population likes the idea of an Erie central killing station. This suggests that Dr. Brigham might be able to collect one signature in his favor for every 20 signatures submitted by his opponents. In reality, at 20,076 to ZIP, Dr. Brigham already has some catching up to do - even with a 20 to 1 handicap!

The signatures will be on hand and available for inspection at Saturday's demonstration.
