Life Chain Turnout 1000+

Participation in the Greater Erie Life Chain increased dramatically this year, to more than 1000 people. At least 1019 people were on hand, according to an unofficial count taken by two volunteers from People for Life. This is a twofold to threefold increase over the numbers from the last four or five years.

The tremendous response is a great encouragement to all who are concerned about keeping surgical and drug-induced abortion out of Erie.

People for Life congratulates the Life Chain organizers and all the participants for a job well done. Their pro-life message of humanitarian concern for women facing difficult pregnancies and for unborn children facing death is something our community can be proud of.

"After talking to scores of Life Chain participants, I am absolutely certain that the impressive numbers yesterday were the direct result of community outrage over the attempt to locate a surgical-chemical abortion center in the Professional Building," commented Tim Broderick, president of People for Life. "Everyone seemed to have questions about the abortion facility. In contrast, there were only a few questions and comments about the recent approval of the RU-486 baby poison." (Since October 1999, Yellow Page ads for the pending abortion facility have included references to "The Abortion Pill." The Clinton-Gore FDA had previously been expected to issue its approval of RU-486 in late 1999.)
